I have often wondered if listening to an audiobook counts as reading it. I mean, do hardcore book snobs look down at you if you didn't actually sit in a corner and read it with your own eyes?? Can you still be counted as an avid reader if you listen to books more than read them?? I just wonder what the consensus is on that.
It's actually kind of a dilemma for me. I work 45 minutes from home so I listen to a lot of audiobooks. Every time a book comes up in conversation, I wonder if I can say I've read that book or do I need to clarify: "well, I didn't actually read it, but I did listen to the audiobook".
Now "abridged" audiobooks...that is another discussion altogether...I'm not sure how I feel about those myself.

hmm, technically, i don't think you can say you "read" the book. but you can say that the book was "read" TO you. and for the record .. u do acknowledge when u listened to an audiobook. at least you're good about that :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I do - and it's because of that uncertainty that I acknowledge it. Although, I'm sure no one cares either way.
