Audiobooks vs. Reading Books

I have often wondered if listening to an audiobook counts as reading it. I mean, do hardcore book snobs look down at you if you didn't actually sit in a corner and read it with your own eyes?? Can you still be counted as an avid reader if you listen to books more than read them?? I just wonder what the consensus is on that.

It's actually kind of a dilemma for me. I work 45 minutes from home so I listen to a lot of audiobooks. Every time a book comes up in conversation, I wonder if I can say I've read that book or do I need to clarify: "well, I didn't actually read it, but I did listen to the audiobook".

It's not like in high school when you were supposed to read Hamlet and you decided to watch the movie and hope it was close enough (I mean, not that I ever did that). Audiobooks are still the complete book (if you get the unabridged ones) - so nothing is left out. In this case, someone is just reading it to you instead of you reading the words yourself. So, does that count as reading the book or is it somehow still not quite the same?? I want to know - what is everyone's opinion??

Now "abridged" audiobooks...that is another discussion altogether...I'm not sure how I feel about those myself.

What to say....I have NO IDEA!!

So I've been telling my friend that I will start a blog and every week I don't. I just don't know what to say in a blog. I tried to think of a theme, but I just can't think of one thing to talk about all the time (I have too much random stuff in my head and it doesn't always connect to the next thought)...so I decided that I would just write about whatever I'm thinking about at that given time. I guess my blog doesn't have to be that profound...I'm going to have - what - one, maybe two subscribers?!? And those people already know I'm not that profound...so what the heck...here is my blog!!

Oh, one warning I'd like to give...grammar and punctuation are not my strong point...I'm not going to stress over making the blog all "7th grade grammar class" perfect. So please - try not to cringe when you read my posts.

Other than that...
Enjoy!!
