I have often wondered if listening to an audiobook counts as reading it. I mean, do hardcore book snobs look down at you if you didn't actually sit in a corner and read it with your own eyes?? Can you still be counted as an avid reader if you listen to books more than read them?? I just wonder what the consensus is on that.
It's actually kind of a dilemma for me. I work 45 minutes from home so I listen to a lot of audiobooks. Every time a book comes up in conversation, I wonder if I can say I've read that book or do I need to clarify: "well, I didn't actually read it, but I did listen to the audiobook".
Now "abridged" audiobooks...that is another discussion altogether...I'm not sure how I feel about those myself.
